The verdict

Motorsports Gateway Howell is Michigan's second private club and the more track-focused of the two, and it is still under construction. The 1.7-mile South Circuit — designed with Driven International, the firm behind FIA-informed safety work and Yas Marina renovations — is scheduled to open for member driving first, with a 0.96-mile North Circuit and a 2.58-mile full configuration slated for around 2028. The numbers are unusually good for the Midwest: 133 ft of elevation change on the South Circuit and 173 ft on the full course, a half-mile straight, 40 ft of track width, generous paved runoff and 150 mph top speeds. Membership is non-equity and, refreshingly, fully priced on the website. The club is deliberately not a public track-day operation: the South Circuit is reserved for members and member-hosted events, with group instruction included in every tier, motorcycle sessions run separately, and track-fronting garage condos alongside.

Best forDetroit and Ann Arbor drivers who want serious elevation and unlimited seat time on a private circuit, plus buyers who want a track-fronting garage with transparent membership costs.
